4.1.5. Check and replacement of the fan of a radiator and relay

GENERAL INFORMATION

Radiator fan details

Fans of a radiator turn on relays which are run by the ECM block. The ESM block obtains information from the sensor of temperature of cooling liquid and on the basis of this information gives a signal on turning on of the fan of a radiator. The additional fan of a radiator turns on only at turning on of the air conditioning system.

Scheme of check of the main relay of the fan

Resistance between contacts of 1 and 3 relays has to make 100 Ohms, and between contacts 2 and 4 has to be equal to infinity. When giving tension of the accumulator to contacts the 1 and 3 resistance between contacts 2 and 4 has to be equal to 0.

Check

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. If the fan of a radiator does not work, first of all check integrity of the fuse of the fan.
2. If the safety lock is serviceable, check whether the radiator fan engine works. For this purpose separate the electric socket of the engine of the fan of a radiator and give additional wires accumulator tension on the radiator engine socket.
3. Consistently connect a positive wire from the accumulator to contacts of 2 and 3 electric sockets (it is specified by an arrow). At the same time the engine of the fan of a radiator has to work at different speeds.
4. If when giving tension from the accumulator the engine of the fan does not work for the fan engine socket, it needs to be replaced.
5. If the engine of the fan of a radiator is serviceable, but does not work at an engine overheat, disconnect the electric socket from the engine of the fan of a radiator and check tension on contacts of the socket at the hot engine.
6. If tension on the socket is absent, check serviceability of the relay of the fan installed in the relay block in a motor compartment. If the relay does not work, replace it with new.

Prevention

On models since 1995 two main relays of the fan are installed.


7. If the relay is serviceable, check serviceability of the sensor of temperature of cooling liquid.

Replacement

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Disconnect the electric socket of the engine of the fan of a radiator.
2. Unscrew bolts of fastening of a casing of the fan to a radiator and remove assembly of the fan from the car.
3. Unscrew bolts of fastening of the engine of the fan of a radiator to a casing of the fan and remove the fan engine together with the fan.
4. If replacement of the engine of the fan is made, remove the fan from the engine and install the fan on the new engine.
5. Installation is made in the sequence, the return to removal.
